Hi, my name is Dakshesh Kaki and I am a rising Junior at Middleton High School in Tampa, Florida. I am very interested in electrical and computer engineering and I can't wait to meet you.
Middleton Robotics, a world championship level robotics program, is based at Middleton Magnet High School, Hillsborough County’s STEM high school and the first in Florida that is STEM certified by AdvancedEd. Middleton, a Title I school also has a substantial neighborhood population. We see communities of like-minded people, but in which varied opinions are respected and cherished.
Middleton Robotics consists of seven teams and an organization that brings together students (both within and outside the Middleton community, as we have with varied socio-economic backgrounds, nationalities, ethnicities, genders, and life experiences. We all have common goals: To learn together, to help each other, to better ourselves, to help the community at large, and to compete on a competitive level.
And over the years, Middleton Robotics has been very successful on and off the field. Numerous of our members have received college assistance due to their robotics experience. Others have simply had a helping hand from their teammates or mentors to complete high school (there is a minimum grade point average to remain on the team) or to think about applying to college. Middleton Robotics has invested thousands of hours in community service, mostly introducing robotics and other STEM subjects to elementary and middle school age students. And of course, over the past ten or so years, Middleton Robotics has won dozens of tournaments, including World Robotics championships.
But, why are we writing to you? We need your help! Each year our budget runs approximately $80,000 and with cuts in educational funding, 0% of this budget comes from the Hillsborough School District or Middleton High School. We are very creative in raising money. We do all the usual fundraising projects with a vengeance (car washes, garage sales, auctions, food sales, etc.). But it is not enough and thus we ask for your help.
If you chose to support Middleton Robotics through a tax-deductible donation, your company will be acknowledged in our press releases and promotional media and your company’s name will be displayed on at least one of our robots throughout the remainder of the School year.
