President Lee Jae-myung, Honorable Citizens of the Republic of Korea, and Fellow Global Citizens – We Are Truly Sorry.

An 83-year-old woman who gave 65 years of her life to heal Korea and lift the entire planet now sits in pretrial detention – 176 days since her arrest on September 22, 2025 – without a final verdict. Her health is failing fast. We regret that the nation she helped build now holds her captive. This contradicts everything Korea stands for. Today that ends.

This week the crisis became impossible to ignore. On March 6, at Seoul Central District Court, Holy Mother Han had to leave the hearing early, overcome by acute pain and exhaustion. Crowds instantly filled Gwanghwamun Square. Livestreams of #ReleaseTheMotherOfPeace raced around the planet 24/7. Just yesterday, March 13, from inside the detention center she sent a message of pure faith: “The Heavenly Parent… is always with us. In the end, the dream of our Heavenly Parent will surely be fulfilled.” Even in chains she lifts us.

The facts are heartbreaking yet crystal clear. On September 4, 2025, Dr. Hak Ja Han underwent heart surgery – cardiac ablation for atrial fibrillation. Doctors ordered 30 days of rest. She received none. She endured 25 hours of interrogation in September alone. Heart failure returned. She was taken to a 70-square-foot solitary cell with no bed, no chair, and poor ventilation. Near-blind, battling diabetes and macular degeneration, she is allowed only five visitors for 10 minutes total each day. A U.S. physician who reviewed her records warned of life-threatening stroke risk. Even a former prisoner from communist Czechoslovakia said he received better medical care than she does now.

Yet this is the same woman who, for 65 years, stood as Korea’s silent architect of hope. Born in North Korea in 1943, she fled communist police at age five. She married Rev. Sun Myung Moon in 1960 and together they built the direct opposite of the system that hunted them: a global movement centered on God-centered families. She rallied 1.2 million Koreans in 1975 against communism. She inspired the “Miracle on the Han River,” encouraging Samsung, Hyundai and the companies that turned poverty into global power. She met Gorbachev in 1990 and Kim Il-sung in 1991, opening paths to reconciliation. She founded the Women’s Federation for World Peace – now in 157 nations – and the Universal Peace Federation, active in over 200 countries. Every Korean president, across every party, drew wisdom from her unity message – including President Lee Jae-myung’s own 2025 victory, built on the ethical foundation she strengthened.

The very government she helped rise now keeps her incarcerated without final judgment. The paradox hurts every Korean heart.
